I just took the exam for CWSP with success, a score of 88 % is something i am happy about but i didn’t really feel too confident pressing the submit button.
Thinking of sharing some tips here which i think can help others to complete the CWSP certification:
In the exam i got a lot of questions regarding different wireless attack scenarios and what type of attack it was describing, (Eavesdropping, Peer-to-peer, Social engineering etc), to be honest i think a lot of those answer is more from the CWNA book than CWSP. So a great first tip here is just to read the CWNA book, chapter 16 – Wireless Attacks and intrusion monitoring and policy to fresh it up.
Another area important to grasp is how the 802.11 Authentication process happens (State Machine) an what happens after depending on the different security solutions used (WPA2-Personal/WPA2-Enterprise/WPA3). Important here is for example the 4-way handshake. Remembering the order of it will be very useful when learning the AKM Key Hierarchy because now u will know when some of the keys are needed and also why/and were they were constructed. My last advice would be not to rush this part, if u learn this really well it will help you much later in the chapters. For example learning of the different fast roaming concepts will be so much easier if u really know the AMK Key Hierarchy and how the keys are generated.
Last tips is Podcasts, i always try to pair chapters in Certs books with episodes from podcasts with related topic. This is great for repeating but also to use when u just don`t have the energy to study, listen to a pod just comes so much easier sometimes and can still bring big value to your studies.
Not sure about my next step… thinking of more certs but its a discussion with me and myself.. i like learning and evolve but its also comes with a price of some dedication and stress. I bought the CWISA book but haven’t started yet…
Time will tell !
